Boy's Arm Run Over by Truck For Stealing Bread |

| A lot of people have heard about harsh punishments
being meted out under Islamic law (Shari'a). Whenever a story surfaces which seems to illustrate the perceived cruelty of this judicial system, it is quickly picked up and spread around by people in western countries. This was also the case with these images. As you can see, they show a truck running over a boy's arm. The text in the email which is spreading these pictures states that the 8-year-old boy is being punished for stealing a loaf of bread. The reality is somewhat different. The pictures are genuine, but the boy is not undergoing any punishment. He is part of a Maareke giry, or street-magic act. The boy was paid to perform this "stunt" in order to extract money from onlookers. He was not seriously injured. |
